Driveway gate repair in Los Angeles, for gates that slide or swing

An electric gate that stops halfway, reverses on its own or ignores the keypad is usually the operator, a loop detector or a safety edge. We find out which before anything is replaced.

The estimate is free and there's no charge to come and look. Nights and weekends cost the same as a weekday.

Open 24 hours, 7 days. A person answers the phone.

A driver reaches out of the car window to press the keypad at a black steel driveway gate

When an electric gate acts up

  • It stops halfway, or opens on its own.
  • It reverses before it finishes closing.
  • The keypad or a remote stopped opening it.
  • It's slow, or it grinds on the track or the hinges.
  • It won't move at all, and the operator is silent.

Where the fault usually is

The operator
The motor and the board that drive an automatic gate. Summer heat in the Valley is hard on the board, and so is a power surge.
The loop detector
A wire loop cut into the driveway that tells the gate a car is there. A cracked slab or a cut loop can make the gate open on its own or stay shut.
The safety edge and photo-eyes
They stop the gate when something is in the way. One knocked out of line makes the gate reverse every time.
The gate itself
A sagging swing gate or a slide gate on worn wheels drags, and the operator strains against it.
Keypads and remotes
A dead keypad or a remote that lost its code. We set the codes and pair the remotes so everyone in the house can use the gate.

New gates

New gates come with the posts, the concrete and the power. We build gates that slide or swing and set the operator, with a keypad everyone in the house can use.

Before we price one, we look at the slope of the driveway and how the power will reach the gate. A slide gate also needs room beside it to run.

Shared drives and shared gates

On a shared drive or a shared gate, the other households are told before we start and when we're done. Tell us when you call if the gate serves more than one house.

How a gate repair goes

  1. We find out which part is at fault before anything is replaced.
  2. You get the price in writing before any work, with the repair option first.
  3. If something else turns up, we stop and ask.
  4. We run the gate with the keypad, the remotes and the safety stops, with whoever is home.

Why one gate job costs more than another

On a repair
Which part failed, and whether it's still made for your operator.
On a new gate
The size and weight matter, and so does how far the power has to run.

Every repair carries 1 year on parts and labor, and it's printed on your receipt.

Questions about gates

Do you work on the garage door too?

Yes. Electric gates and garage doors are both our work. If both need looking at, say so when you call.

The gate opens on its own at night.

Usually the loop detector, or a remote with a button stuck down in a car or a drawer. We check the loop and the remotes before anything else.
