What the opener is doing

What we test before anyone says new
Power first: the outlet, the plug and the breaker. Next, the photo-eyes at the bottom of the track, which stop the door closing when something is in the beam or one eye has been knocked out of line. The gear inside the unit is often stripped when an opener has been lifting a door with a broken spring. The logic board, the part that reads the remote and the wall button, comes last. Valley heat is hard on opener boards.
A hum with no movement is usually a broken spring or a stripped gear. If it's the spring, a new opener won't fix it, and we'll tell you so.

You see the repair price before any replacement price. When parts for an old opener are hard to get, or the repair comes close to the cost of a new unit, you see both and you choose.
If you do replace it, the garage decides which opener we install. A belt-drive opener runs far quieter than a chain, which matters when someone sleeps above the garage or next to it. Many older garages, at the back of the lot or under a hillside house, have low headroom that decides which opener will fit, so we measure it before we price one. - A photo-eye out of line is an adjustment. A gear or a logic board is a part, and the price depends on whether it's still made for your model.

- A broken spring or an unbalanced door gets fixed first, or the new part wears out the same way.
- A new opener
- Chain or belt drive, with or without a keypad, and how many remotes the house needs.
- The garage
- Low headroom or a high ceiling changes which opener and which rail will fit.

Whoever is home tries every remote, the keypad, the wall button and the button in the car, with us standing there. Old remotes are cleared if you ask. Every repair carries 1 year on parts and labor, and it's printed on your receipt.
Questions about openers
Will a new opener fix a door that won't lift?
Not if the spring is broken. The spring carries the door's weight, and a new opener would strain against it the same way the old one did. We fix the spring first.
Can you add a keypad or pair my car?
Yes. We put a keypad on the jamb, set to the code you choose, and pair the button in the car to the opener. Then you try each one before we go.
